Dear Creekside Families,
With the support of district leadership, we are moving forward with our plans to alter our school's calendar to provide staff with an additional day of professional learning centered around making the most of our new building.
On Friday, December, 22, 2017 (the day before winter break) there will be no school for students .
Now that we have spent a few months in these new learning spaces, the time for reflection, refinement and improvement of norms and practices is a critical next step. This work will inform instruction at Creekside moving forward for the rest of the school year and beyond.
This added professional development day will provide us with much needed time to facilitate conversations with teams of teachers who share instructional spaces and students. We plan to discuss the usage of space in the new learning communities and will assist our amazing educators with specific curricular conversations necessary to optimize the use of our new building spaces.
Again, please mark your calendars:
Friday, December 22, 2017 – Professional Development for Staff (No school for students, Preschool through 5th grade)
Please know that we have ensured that Creekside Elementary will still meet the required number of hours of instruction for students in K-5, ,satisfying the state requirement for instructional minutes.
Preschool Only: To meet the minimum requirement for instructional time, preschoolers will need to make up this time. January 26, 2017 will be the make-up day for Preschool and all preschoolers will be in school that day.
We understand that this additional day off for students may be inconvenient for some families. For this reason, we have worked to ensure that childcare for grades K-5 is available on that day for families that need it. If you plan to utilize this service please contact Amber in our front office by Friday, December 15, 2017. Unfortunately, transportation and lunch will not be available that day, so parents/guardians will need to drop off students at the school and students will need to bring a sack lunch.
The YMCA program will be available, as normal, on December 22.
On behalf of the staff at Creekside I want to thank you for your understanding and flexibility in providing this day of learning for us.
It's time to open enroll into Creekside!!

Dear Creekside Families,
I am so excited to begin the 2017-2018 school year in our fabulous new building! I can't wait for you to see the beautiful colors, open space, and innovative furniture! Please keep in mind, however, that a completed building in the construction world is not a completed building in the regular world. The outside of the building remains a work in progress. We anticipate the play areas to be complete, however, the grassy areas may not be accessible for quite some time. Kindly stay on the sidewalks and concrete areas. Flexibility will be essential in order for us to have a joyful, successful, opening of school. I thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we learn to navigate, live and learn in our new space.
On the first day of school staff members will be outside to welcome and direct you and your children to their gathering areas (see important information sheet for locations). This year we will have a bell ring at 7:53, indicating that students should report to their gathering area and line up, that will be followed by the usual 7:55 start bell signaling admittance to the building.
I want to wish a very warm welcome to all of our new families. We are thrilled to have you join our community of curious and engaged learners! We hope that you will consider serving on CPO, our parent organization, or volunteering to help at school.
Classroom assignments will be available in the parent portal on August 15th. If you have not signed up for the parent portal, and are in need of assistance please contact Amber in our front office: (720)-561-3800.
I hope to see many of you at Meet Your Teachers on August 15th from 8:00am-9:00am. This will give you and your child a first look at the new building. We ask, however, that you stay no longer than the hour allocated to allow the teachers to finish preparing for the first day. If your child needs a backpack these will be available at our main entrance on August 15th.
Please join me in welcoming new staff members to the Creekside family:
Markina Barthelemy-Behavior Specialist
Julie Parks-English Language Development
Alysa Spicer-ILC Teacher
Molly Stauffer-Pre K Occupational Therapist
Eric Swan-School Counselor
Natalie Zeldin-Speech Pathologist
Be sure to monitor our website for all of the exciting things happening at Creekside. Should you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you for sending us your children every day. They are precious, and I can't wait to see them!
I look forward to working with all of you to make this an awesome school year!

Media Coverage Notice
There may be times during the school year when different media groups (newspapers, television, university, school production class, etc.)
will cover activities at the various Boulder Valley Schools with articles, video or still photography that may be published locally or
nationally. In addition, schools or the district may want to include school-oriented articles, video or photography in their own publications
such as yearbooks and/or on their own websites.
Parents/Guardians who do not want their student to be included in media coverage must provide the school
with written notice to that effect.
Monday, September 19 is Assessment day.
We do not have regularly scheduled classes. If you have not been contacted by your student's teacher for an appointment, then your child should not come to school.
Have a great Long Weekend!

If your children aren’t already registered in the BVSD Trip Tracker program, this is your invitation to sign them up. Participating students earn Trip Tracker dollars for walking, biking, carpooling or riding the RTD or School Bus to school. Trip Tracker Dollars can be spent like cash at over 50 local businesses like Alfalfa’s Markets, Glacier Ice Cream, Gateway Fun Park and Play It Again Sports. Students can also choose to donate their Trip Tracker dollars in support of one of seven, local, non-profit agencies in Boulder County. The goal of the program is to reduce automobile congestion and pollution in front of participating schools.
You can register for the program by clicking HERE. If you participated last year, you will not need to re-register for this year. This year we will track and reward for ‘green trips’ from September 1 through November 30 and January 4 through April 28. The September calendar is attached to help you keep track of trips. You will be able to report each month’s trips on the Trip Tracker website during the first week of the following month. You will receive a monthly email reminding you to do that.
The first Trip Tracker Dollars will be distributed in mid-October. Dollar distribution happens either in the cafeteria (all middle schools and some elementary schools) or through Friday Folders (many elementary schools).
We hope that you will be able to join us in making our school zones safer for our students.
